Description
With enrollment softening across independent school markets nationally – whether from declining birthrates, unsustainable tuition increases, increased competition, or generational shifts in parent behavior – now more than ever, schools must embrace a collaborative, community-wide approach to enrollment management. The admissions office staff, no matter how capable and experienced, can’t do it alone, particularly in schools beginning to struggle with enrollment decline. By marshalling the whole school community’s talent, resourcefulness, and commitment, the admissions office optimizes its effectiveness, outreach, and capacity to resist and reverse enrollment decline. Among the critical variables is strengthening the partnership between the head of school and the admission director. The presenters, who are themselves an admission director and head team, use their own school as a case study. Almaden Country Day School (ACDS) emerged from a near-fatal four-year enrollment crisis by successfully aligning the head of school, trustees, teachers, and parent volunteers in support of shared enrollment goals, shifting key mindsets enabling innovative new tactics and approaches to take hold that restored enrollment and lifted the school to its current prosperity. The strategies and tactics that ACDS employed address widespread challenges and are applicable across an array of school types and configurations. Workshop topics include: Defining the issues – what problem(s) are you trying to solve? Establishing the admissions/head partnership Building buy-in and shifting mindsets The faculty’s role in internal marketing How the board can help This workshop is interactive and includes takeaways that attendees can immediately apply in their schools.
