Many of our schools have stated that access and equity in the admission process are key goals and are in support of larger school initiatives around the enrollment of a range of diversity in the student body. In fact, anti-bias training for admission committees has become quite popular to support this effort. However, we wonder how the process is actually landing for families when looked through the equity lens. In this session, we will challenge you to take a hard look at your practices to evaluate, from the parent point of view, how successful your office is being in this work. Admission and DEIB practitioners as well as parents will grapple with hard questions together. We'll discuss topics such as: Where are our blind spots when it comes to access and equity? Are our schools actually products that shouldn't be available to all? Are our admission practices reflecting what we say is important? Is equity is a goal we should be striving toward? Are we standing in integrity around these issues? This session will challenge you, and maybe make you a little uncomfortable, as we use real world examples to discuss these issues and more.
