The role of the secondary school counselor is handled differently in every school. sometimes it is the school head, a defined full-time position, a part-time role given to a teacher, or some other description. It often gets handed to someone with no training or experience and with no real place to learn. A portion of this workshop is designed to teach the basics of working as a secondary school counselor. We will talk about everything from relationships with parents, admissions officers, testing organizations, private consultants, and test prep companies, to how to write a letter of recommendation and a board report. We will use case studies, strategize around the "most difficult" students to place, and cover all aspects of the process. In a role that is critical to how a K-8/9 school is judged by both the current parent body and prospective parents, this work is essential.
Join us for an interactive, multi-level workshop as we dive into all aspects of placement. No matter where you are in your career, all placement directors are invited to attend, collaborate and share perspectives. Admission and enrollment representatives are welcome to join as well to gain a deeper understanding of the admissions process from the placement perspective. There will be something for everyone as we explore the placement process and the vital role of a placement counselor.
