The Brearley School’s Free Tuition Program, launched in 2024, formalized and streamlined the process for qualifying families to attend Brearley completely free of charge. Furthermore, our comprehensive financial aid program supports a wide array of non-tuition expenses to ensure that students have access to the full Brearley experience. These programs help recruit, and retain, outstanding students to Brearley while increasing the socioeconomic diversity of our community. They have also been a strong driver of increased interest in our school, as reflected in increased applications and enrollment from our target audiences. This presentation will provide an overview of our Free Tuition Program, from conception to launch; insight into our institutional financial aid philosophy; and examples of how our financial aid programs support Brearley families from initial inquiry through graduation. We hope this presentation and discussion will inspire amongst attendees an exchange of ideas. Our goal is to help attendees identify best practices for expanding access to independent schools and supporting financial aid recipients while recognizing opportunities for expansion at their own schools.
