Description
By popular demand, this session returns with an updated and expanded perspective grounded in its most recent implementation at The Lawrenceville School. Originally developed and presented through earlier work at Pingry, this approach addressed a persistent challenge in admissions: the lack of a standardized, transparent system for evaluating prospective student-athletes. What was once a process driven by ad hoc conversations and inconsistent advocacy has evolved into a structured, data-informed model that brings clarity, fairness, and accountability to athletic recruitment. In this session, I will share how this system has been refined and adapted across institutions, most recently at Lawrenceville, while also drawing on its initial success at Pingry. At the core is a dynamic, point-based evaluation framework that allows coaches to more effectively assess, rank, and advocate for prospective athletes within a consistent and mission-aligned structure. Participants will see how this model empowers coaches while also creating institutional guardrails, ensuring that decisions are equitable, transparent, and strategically aligned with broader admissions priorities. Beyond identifying talent, the system provides deeper insight into team needs, roster composition, and long-term pipeline development. This is not a theoretical model. It is a proven, evolving practice that has been implemented, tested, and refined across different school contexts. Join this session to explore how a standardized approach to athlete evaluation can transform not only recruitment, but also the relationship between athletics and admissions, creating a more intentional, accountable, and aligned process across your institution.
