Building and Managing Effective Admission Committees
Date & Time
Thursday, September 18, 2025, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description
What does it take to build an admission committee that truly reflects your school’s mission and values, while also navigating practical realities like time, data overload, and unconscious bias? In this session, two enrollment leaders, one from a large K–12 school in Honolulu and the other from a multi-campus day and boarding school in Florida, share how they’ve each reimagined the structure, purpose, and culture of their admission committees. From committee composition to decision-making protocols, this session is designed to illuminate what thoughtful, mission-aligned admission work looks like in practice. Through side-by-side comparisons, Maile and Kila will explore: How their respective schools structure their admission committees to include voices from across divisions, roles, and perspectives. The ways they prepare committee members with resources, training, and framing conversations to mitigate bias and elevate both qualitative and quantitative data. Tools they’ve developed, including rating matrices and data review protocols, to create consistency and transparency. Attendees will also hear how both schools intentionally foster a sense of shared purpose and belonging within their committees. Rooted in real examples but broad enough to adapt to a range of school sizes and cultures, this session will benefit anyone looking to bring more intentionality, mission alignment, and collaboration to their admission process.
